About the Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) & the Metropolis Institute

The Association for Canadian Studies and Metropolis Institute advances knowledge and understanding of Canadian history, civic life and public policy. Through evidence-based research, publications, public dialogue and knowledge mobilization, ACS examines how history, immigration, diversity and evolving identities shape Canada and Canadians’ sense of belonging. By convening researchers, policymakers, educators and community organizations from across the country, ACS-Metropolis supports informed civic participation, strengthens public understanding and develops practical responses to complex issues facing Canadian society.

The Metropolis Institute

The Metropolis Institute conducts research and knowledge-sharing activities focused primarily on immigration, integration, and the experiences of newcomers in Canada. It connects researchers, policymakers, immigrant-serving organizations, community leaders, and other practitioners through conferences, webinars, research projects, publications, and professional networks. Its work explores topics such as settlement services, labour-market integration, international students, temporary and permanent immigration, housing, demographic change, and newcomer inclusion. The Institute also creates opportunities for people working across the immigration and settlement sector to exchange evidence, practical experience, and emerging approaches to the challenges affecting newcomers and the communities in which they live.

The Association for Canadian Studies (ACS)

The Association for Canadian Studies (ACS) is a national organization dedicated to producing and sharing research on Canadian society. Its work examines issues such as Canadian identity, diversity, citizenship, official languages, social cohesion, and relations between different regions and communities. ACS conducts surveys and research projects, publishes reports and analysis, and organizes conferences, forums, and other events that bring together researchers, policymakers, community organizations, and practitioners. Through these activities, ACS provides data and perspectives that help governments, organizations, academics, and the public better understand demographic, social, and political trends shaping Canada.
