Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada, the research team has led multiple initiatives related to public health, including the creation of the COVID-19 Social Impacts Network, a multidisciplinary group of leading experts from across the country, to help identify key social and economic issues, indicators and socio-demographics to ask in bi-weekly surveys to Canadians.
The top-level findings that Canadians reported on the social and economic impacts of the virus from these bi-weekly studies have been repeatedly cited in the media. An extension of these efforts led to the creation of a North America-wide network currently in operation and a two-year research project examining the differential impacts of COVID-19 on newcomers, Indigenous Peoples and racialized communities in general in Canada, the United States and Mexico.
